DraftKings Casino review:
9.6 megabytes before the first spin

DraftKings Casino logo

DraftKings arrived at casino by way of daily fantasy and then sports betting, and the casino product now ships as its own app rather than a tab inside the sportsbook. It holds real-money casino licenses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia and Connecticut, five of the seven states where online casino is legal at all, the widest footprint in our US table alongside FanDuel. Store users are unusually kind to it: 4.7 on the App Store and a 5.0 average on Google Play at our last metadata pull.

This is one of the operators we could measure properly. On our throttled-4G profile, the browser lobby at casino.draftkings.com finished loading in 5.9 seconds at a first-load weight of 9.6MB across three runs. That is a middling result in our US set: clearly quicker than FanDuel's 13.16 seconds, nowhere near BetRivers at 0.68.

A casino app that isn't a sportsbook tab

DraftKings maintains both routes in its casino states: a dedicated DraftKings Casino app, and a casino section inside the main DraftKings app. On a phone the dedicated app is the better product: the lobby is the home screen, not a destination you navigate to past betting markets. The catalog covers slots, virtual table games and live dealer, plus a set of in-house exclusive titles DraftKings builds itself, which most US competitors don't attempt. Live dealer coverage depends on each state's rules, so judge the lobby you actually get, not a national feature list.

The small-screen lobby is dense. Category rails stack vertically, thumbnails are large, and search sits one tap away, so finding a specific slot is quick once the page is up. Getting the page up is the cost: at 9.6MB of first-load transfer, the lobby assumes a connection that can absorb it. On hotel Wi-Fi or a weak LTE cell you will feel those megabytes before you see a single reel.

5.9 seconds, 195 megabytes and a strict OS floor

Our three throttled-4G runs put the browser lobby at 5.9 seconds to load, carrying 9.6MB. For a real-money lobby that is acceptable rather than good: the fastest US operator we timed came in under a second, and 9.6MB is the second-heaviest first load in our US table after FanDuel's 14.2MB. On modern hardware with solid coverage you won't notice; on a throttled or congested connection you will.

The native app is a 195.4MB download requiring iOS 16.2 or newer, the second-strictest floor in our US index after Caesars' 17.0, which quietly excludes anyone on an iPhone that stopped receiving iOS updates a few years back. Store ratings are strong: 4.7 on iOS and a rounded 5.0 on Google Play at our last pull. We report store averages as player sentiment, not as our own finding, and a 5.0 should be read as rounding rather than perfection.

Moving money across five state wallets

The cashier carries the usual US rails: debit cards, ACH via online banking, PayPal, and Play+ prepaid. Credit cards are commonly declined by issuing banks that code gambling transactions, so debit and ACH remain the rails we'd plan around. We don't quote minimum deposits, fees or payout clocks: they vary by state and by method, and a stale number is worse than none.

One structural point that catches multi-state players: each state license is a separate wallet. A balance deposited in New Jersey is not spendable in Michigan, even though the app and login are the same. Identity verification (name, address, date of birth, last four of your SSN) happens at signup, and the first withdrawal is where incomplete verification stalls, so finish the document checks before you need money out.

The runs behind this snapshot

We loaded casino.draftkings.com three times in headless Chromium on a throttled-4G profile from our measurement node and report the result alongside app-store metadata pulled fresh at each site rebuild. DraftKings did not block our node, so the 5.9-second and 9.6MB figures are direct observations, current as of the snapshot date on this page. What we did not do: log in, deposit, or measure the native app's own screens; store size and minimum OS come from the listings.

Where it stands

+ For

  • Measured: 5.9s lobby load on throttled 4G, no geo-block against our node
  • Live in five of the seven legal casino states
  • Dedicated casino app with the lobby on the first screen
  • In-house exclusive titles alongside the standard suppliers
  • 4.7 iOS / 5.0 Google Play ratings at our last pull

− Against

  • 9.6MB first load — second-heaviest lobby in our US table
  • 195.4MB app download
  • iOS 16.2 minimum excludes older iPhones
  • Not licensed in Delaware or Rhode Island

DraftKings Casino is the broad, competent center of the US market: five states, a real dedicated casino app, exclusive content, and store ratings that suggest players largely agree. Our stopwatch is more reserved than the store crowds — 5.9 seconds on throttled 4G is midfield, and the 9.6MB lobby asks a lot of a weak connection.

If you live in one of its five states and your phone clears the iOS 16.2 floor, it belongs on the shortlist. If your connection is the weak link in your setup, a lighter lobby exists — see our BetRivers numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Which states allow DraftKings Casino for real money?

New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia and Connecticut. Those are the licensed casino states for DraftKings; the sportsbook operates in far more states, but the casino tab stays greyed out in all of them. Real-money online casino is legal in only seven US states in total, and DraftKings covers five.

Does DraftKings have a separate casino app?

Yes. In its casino states DraftKings offers a standalone DraftKings Casino app alongside the casino section of its main app. Both use the same account and wallet for a given state. On a phone we'd take the dedicated app: the lobby loads as the home screen instead of sitting behind sportsbook navigation.

What iPhone do I need for the DraftKings casino app?

The App Store listing requires iOS 16.2 or newer at our last pull, which in practice means an iPhone 8 or later that has kept up with updates. It is one of the stricter floors in our US index. The download itself is 195.4MB, so allow for that on a metered connection.
